SPORTS BAR APPLICATIONS 2024
** Please read all the information below before completing the Sports Bar Application Form **
Sports Bars
Philosophy:
- A Sports Bar is recognising commitment and acheivement across a range of ‘school sanctioned sporting activities and events'
- These sporting activities and events are beyond the school curriculum
- There will be transparency and equity across and between sporting activities while respecting the unique character of each sport.
- Acknowleding and reawrding students for sporting participation through involvement from Year 9 to Year 13
Sports Bars Structure:
Point accumulation system to achieve bars
Bar 1 - 6 Points
Bar 2 - Bar 1 and 7 points (13 in total)
Bar 3 - Bar 2 and 9 points (22 in total)
Bar 4 - Bar 3 and 10 points (32 in total)
Bar 5 - Bar 4 and 12 points (44 in total)
Points are accumulated throughout a students time at PNGHS
Awarding of points:
Points are awarded for participation, commitment and achievement in extra-curricular sport. The Director of Sport will make the allocation of points following student self nomination and checking of KAMAR records.
Points will be awarded for selection in top teams, for named captains or leadership groups in top teams.
Points will be awarded to students who volunteer within the school sporting community e.g. volunteer coach of a PNGHS team, netball umpiring
Points will be awarded to students who compete and place at regional sporting events e.g. Manawatu SS Swimming, Manawatu SS Athletics, Manawatu SS Triathlon, Manawatu SS Orienteering etc
Points will be awarded to students who compete in individual or team events at NZ School Sports Sanctioned events e.g. NZSS Orienteering Championships, NZ School Triathlon, NZ Schools Road Cycling etc
A general guideline is that students will be awarded 1 point per term for commitment to a sporting activity e.g. 2 points for netball (Term 2 and 3) and 2 points for Volleyball (Term 1 and 4). Extra points are awarded for students who play in top teams to reflect the time commitment that these teams require.
It is important to recognise that sporting opportunities present themselves from year to year with introduction of new events etc. Therefore the points allocation will be assessed and changed when necessary.
Allocation of points will be at the discretion of a Sports Awards committee comprising of the Director of Sport, Sports Coordinator, Deputy Principal and Event Manager. Allocation of points will be final.
Specific Sports Bars Point Allocation
