Welcome to Palmerston North Girls’ High School and thank you for considering us as a school for your young person.

We provide an outstanding education for young women from Palmerston North, the wider Manawatū region and  a range of overseas countries. We have a very strong record in NCEA attainment and UE along with many high performing, prominent alumni.

We are also focused on being innovative and responsive to the changing world our young people are moving into, through offering strong pathways to a broad range of high value opportunities and destinations to the world of work.

We provide a wide curriculum that includes a full range of subjects at all levels with an expectation that students will also be involved in extracurricular sporting, artistic and/or cultural activities. We provide a myriad of extension groups and social and ‘real world’ learning opportunities for our students. We also provide learning support based on individual needs. Students at all levels are encouraged to take up leadership roles. These opportunities help them develop greater self-confidence and become healthy risk takers within our supportive environment.

We are very focused on knowing our learners and working alongside them to enable them to flourish. Our values are based on developing young people who are respectful, socially responsible and resilient - whakaute, whakatangata, whakamana. Our teachers are hardworking and passionate and we have been on a journey - which continues - of developing a learning community based on culturally responsive and relational kaupapa and philosophy.

We invite you to visit our school and consider how we may form a learning partnership to achieve the best outcomes for your young person’s future.

Mā tou rourou mā taku rourou ka puawai te kura. With your contribution and my contribution the school will flourish.

HEAD GIRL'S WELCOME

Kia ora and welcome to Palmerston North Girls’ High School!

My name is Lucy McLean, and it is an absolute privilege to represent PNGHS as Head Girl in 2024. I am excited to lead and work with a fantastic group of Prefects and student leaders; as a cohort, we are all looking forward to providing our school community with a year full of opportunity. We will be working hard at promoting our school’s culture and opportunities, running events, and supporting our peers, to showcase everything here at PNGHS.

As students, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to get involved in such a wide variety of experiences inside and outside of the classroom. From sports, academia, the arts, cultural and service, students are encouraged to get involved and make the most of their time at PNGHS, allowing them to meet new people and try new experiences. Change is a constant over the time we're at high school; our school motto Semper Sursum, meaning Ever Upwards, is something that I like to use as encouragement for students to maintain a positive mindset and keep striving to the best of their ability.

We have a really robust support network of staff and students at PNGHS; if students ever require any assistance or have any issues, we have a staff with a wealth of knowledge to connect with, who allow for every student to have an enjoyable and meaningful five years at school here.

Our School Values of Respect, Resilience and Social Responsibility (Whakaute, Whakamana, Whakatangata) are a key part of what it means to be a student here at PNGHS. Our teachers and staff work hard everyday to instil these values, and adequately prepare us for life beyond school.

I wish everyone a great year ahead.

Ngā mihi nui, Semper Sursum
