Welcome to Palmerston North Girls’ High School and thank you for considering us as a school for your young person.

We provide an outstanding education for young women from Palmerston North, the wider Manawatū region and  a range of overseas countries. We have a very strong record in NCEA attainment and UE along with many high performing, prominent alumni. We are also focused on being innovative and responsive to the changing world our young people are moving into, through offering strong pathways to a broad range of high value opportunities and destinations to the world of work.

We provide a wide curriculum that includes a full range of subjects at all levels with an expectation that students will also be involved in extracurricular sporting, artistic and/or cultural activities. We provide a myriad of extension groups and social and ‘real world’ learning opportunities for our students. We also provide learning support based on individual needs. Students at all levels are encouraged to take up leadership roles. These opportunities help them develop greater self-confidence and become healthy risk takers within our supportive environment.

We are very focused on knowing our learners and working alongside them to enable them to flourish. Our values are based on developing young people who are respectful, socially responsible and resilient - whakaute, whakatangata, whakamana. Our teachers are hardworking and passionate and we have been on a journey - which continues - of developing a learning community based on culturally responsive and relational kaupapa and philosophy.

We invite you to visit our school and consider how we may form a learning partnership to achieve the best outcomes for your young person’s future.

Mā tou rourou mā taku rourou ka puawai te kura
With your contribution and my contribution the school will flourish.

Tēnā koutou katoa, kei aku whakatamarahi ki te rangi, kei aku whakateitei ki te whenua, nau mai haere mai ki Te Kura Kōhine o Papaioea.

Tālofa and welcome to Palmerston North Girls’ High School. I am honoured to be given the opportunity to share my story as a Palmerston North Girls’ High School student.

It was only in my second year of schooling in New Zealand that I made the choice to walk through the gates of PNGHS. I had recently arrived from Samoa and treading new waters was daunting. There was much about my newly adopted home that I did not understand. I was learning in a different culture and I spoke only broken English. Five years later, I am Head Girl. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be in this role. It is testament to the opportunities and education that PNGHS has provided me.

During my five years at PNGHS, I have witnessed many initiatives to encourage students to strive for success and work with integrity. I have valued the opportunities to talk about my culture and to understand what it means to be a Pasifika learner. The school environment has taught me resilience, social responsibility and respect for cultural identity, our whānau and āiga, our community and our differences. We celebrate and support each other.

PNGHS provides a wide range of opportunities across academic, artistic, sporting, and cultural pursuits. I have been lucky enough to be involved in a number of activities ranging from choirs including Cantatrices, social sports teams such as volleyball and badminton and the Pasifika group.  I have learnt about team-work and leadership and built my confidence through the challenges and opportunities offered at school.

This year, I am very fortunate to work alongside a group of amazing and talented student leaders. We are looking forward to providing a great service to our students and our school community.

I wish all our students an exciting and successful year.
