Regional Speaking Competitions |
French: The Alliance Française speaking competition took place on Saturday 28 August. Sifan Lu (Y10) - 2nd place, Lize Jansen Van Vuuren (Y11) - 1st place, Shaina Pinares-Garcia - 2nd place, Fatima Shehata (Y13) - 2nd place. Japanese:Four students participated in Massey Japanese Speech Competition on Friday 20 August. Congratulations on excellent results. Yinan Zhang (Y11) - highly commended, Dakyung Lee (Y11) - 2nd place, Phway Aye (Y13) - 1st place. |

The Enviro Group students as guardians of the Titoki reserve recently had a planting day and put in seedlings that they had nurtured for eighteen months with the support and guidance from Eddie Wesh from Green Corridors. Alison McGhie (Y12) leads the Titoki team and is looking for more members.

Our annual school concert on 26 August was a great success. It was a fabulous showcase of the talent of the students (and staff...) of Palmerston North Girls' High School. Every genre of music was covered, from classical to jazz, and items included brilliant violin, vocal, piano, cello and flute solos, as well as performances from all of our school groups and ensembles. The hall was full, and everyone who attended had a great night.

As an Enviro School, Palmerston North Girls' High School students attend the annual Youth Jam, an environmental hui for students from around the region. This year Ms Brown and Brittany Park (Y9), Alessia Morel (Y9) and Eilis Donnelly (Y10) attended the three day event at Inglewood, Taranaki.

During lunchtime this term, students are learning Italian and Norwegian. Their tutors are exchange students who share their language and culture with their Palmerston North Girls' High School colleagues. Any students interested in this opportunity should poo see Angela Yang (Y13), Extension prefect or Dr Meikle.

Te Piringa worked extremely hard in preparing for a very hard competition in Rotorua this year achieving 3rd place overall. Other Awards Reo 1st = with Otaki, Tira 4th, Kakahu 4th, Whakaeke 6th= with Te Ropu Manaaki, Moteatea 7th, Waiata-a-ringa 4th, Haka 17th= with Te Aute/Hukarere, Poi 3rd Many thanks go to parents for your support, students for being such great ambassadors, and tutors for your dedication and leadership. It was a wonderful result.

• El Mariachi - Sylvia Radford (Y12), Georgia Feekes (Y12), Anna Hamer-Adams (Y13), Sarah Sturgess (Y13) - electric guitar and classical guitars - Bronze award • Noteable Georgia Feekes, Anna Hamer-Adams, Sarah Sturgess - classical guitars - Gold award and the Supreme Award. Performance examinations • Kamini Asokan ((Y11) successfully completed Grade 3 Electric Guitar and Annette Margrain (Y12) Grade 5 Bass Guitar.

Senior Trade Fair at the Plaza |
Eight companies from Palmerston North Girls' High School were represented at the Trade Fair on 21 August at the Plaza. There were twenty-three companies from schools in the region. Three prizes were awarded for store presentation and presentation of personnel, sales manner, product knowledge.
