- The Year 12 Business Course is based on Enterprise New Zealand Trust Certificate in Young Enterprise.
- It offers 24 credit-equivalents at Level 3.
The credits are at ‘Achieved’ level only, although it is possible to achieve ‘high distinction’ or ‘distinction’ for the Young Enterprise Exam.
- It is NOT an NCEA course
- It is currently given 'ad eundem' status for qualifying for admission to University.
The Course aims to develop an understanding of the theory and practice of operating a small business in New Zealand’s economic climate. Students will become aware of the changing nature of the economic environment and how that impacts on business enterprises. Students may choose to study Year 12 Business and then Year 13 Business in the following year. These students are offered a range of Unit Standards to complete, as the 24 credit-equivalents are only available once.
OBJECTIVES
There will be a lot of learning and a huge number of skills that you can develop while taking part in the scheme. These skills will become second nature to you by the end of the year. You should also be having fun and doing something that you really want to be involved in. Every company throughout the country will be different and each member of each company is unique.
Young Enterprise is the best opportunity you will get to realise your uniqueness, develop your strengths, work together as a team and possibly make money at the same time. Like any other team event YE is about working towards your goals and taking all the steps necessary to achieve them. And, to win, you have to be the best that you can be.
Another important thing to remember is that you and the team are not alone. You will have a business mentor for advice, a teacher to help you with your work and a Regional Co-ordinator to organise different events throughout the year. As well as this, Enterprise New Zealand Trust are there to help. They want to help you at every stage and if you have any problems they can help you reach a decision that will be best for you and your company.
Throughout the year there will be “highs” and there may even be some “lows” and the team will not always agree on everything. What the scheme tries to encourage people to remember is that you will ALL be all right and that the trick is to find the right solution for the problem that you are trying to solve.
NZQA recognises the Young enterprise Certificate, and its credits are counted towards your NCEA.
