In Science at PNGHS students study the natural, material and physical world using the skills that they develop investigating the Nature of Science. They learn the relevance of their knowledge to the world around them and gain the ability to apply their knowledge when investigating both New Zealand and global issues.
Science is compulsory until the end of Year 11. Students are assessed by both internal and external achievement standards.
A range of learning pathways allow students of all abilities to engage with their learning and experience success within science.
Support is available for targeted students involving reduced class sizes, teacher aides and a modified curriculum. More able students are challenged with Extension activities, groups and competitions. These include, but are not limited to CREST, Science Fair, New Zealand International Biology and Chemistry Olympiad, Eureka, Hands On Otago, EnviroSchools and ICAS.
